This semester I'm taking to 2 production classes- Media Practices: Design and Media Practices: Time-based; so I'll actually have a lot to share on this blog. On the first day of class for Design we did a quick exercise in Photoshop. We were instructed to choose a theme, any theme, and find pictures for that theme to create a Fibonacci collage. So here's mine.
Why art supplies? As I was contemplating a theme, I looked down at my sketchbook, which was given to me for free from Blick Art Supplies at the beginning of the school year, and voila, inspiration!

fall 2009
I've already completed one semester of my graduate studies. Last semester I took the 3 required courses for the program and one was production based. The course was Media Practices: Concepts and was an introduction to media production. The course is designed to allow students to dabble into the various media forms: still photography, video, audio, web. It wasn't about mastering our skills in any area but more about exploring and understanding the relationships between forms.
The professor I had took the course in an interesting direction. He had us create an avatar/alter-ego/artist that would inspire our approach to the projects. The character I created is sort of extension of myself that I had created even before the class. My pseudonym is Les is More. The work that I create is essentially that...less is more.
Our first assignment was to create a logo for our artist, so here is what I came up with.
We then messed around with photography and lighting creating self-portaits and then manipulating them in photoshop.
I'm not going to share everything from the course, but yeah, we played around with photography (the top banner is actually from a photo I took for one of the projects) and audio (using ProTools..which was a bit frustrating for me because I wanted to use the program like I would FCP).
And of course video
Now that we're caught up, I'll be updating this as I complete projects rather than putting a bunch in one post.
So stay tuned...

hello!
I started this blog to display and share the work I will be doing as I progress toward obtaining my M.A. in Media Studies at The New School. I'm not much for words so stay tuned and eventually I'll put some of my stuff up :)
